Introduction

Welcome to my blog celebrating the beauty of Maine and New England. You may link to my other 13 blogs though my parent blog:
www.nightbloomingcards.com.
Some of them are oriented around designs for Arizona and the American southwest, but others have a more general range. The designs you see here are available as a wide variety of products on my Zazzle gallery at:
www.zazzle.com/robert_coyne.
I enjoy doing custom work, and will gladly take your requests for one-of-a-kind pieces. I have done logos and animated logos for people who have asked for them. I have expanded into animation and have 26 videos on You Tube at: nightbloomingcards7.
See the list of links for easy access to any of these sites. My blogs include two turorial sites as does my You Tube videos.
I am always willing to share how I create these designs. I think I have developed techniques that many people could enjoy using. In fact, I plan to create a studio of artists around these ideas, so if you are interested; let me know. Feedback on this or any of my blogs is welcome.
I have recently started a series of state mandalas which will eventually include all 50 states. I am starting with the state of Maine. To keep up with the collection as it grows, go to Traveling Mandalas at:

Zazzle Lamps

Zazzle now offers table and hanging or pendant lamps. I have used my expanded arrays to design 31 lamps for my store. This one is made with my daffodil array. My creations look especially good with light shining through.

Amaryllis Flowers

I planted 5 amaryllis bulbs this year with the idea that next year I will use photos of the flowers for my Christmas card design. They are such beautiful flowers that it should be my best holiday design yet. The following year, I will do a nativity mandala that I've been working on for three years. Merry Christmas!

Daffodil Border/Frame

I have added this border/frame to our daffodil collection. One can use it on my Zazzle site to add a text of your choice. Daffodils are an early sign of spring here in Maine, so a spring time poem could be good. On my Zazzle gallery, I offer ready made versions of the design with a few popular scriptures and prayers. I give you an example of the Beatitudes as posted in my store. Click on the image to see it as it appears on Zazzle.

Daffodil Background

I created this emerging pattern background with photos of daffodil flowers. To use it as a background, I will desaturate, darken, and colorize it; but I want to show you this original, as I think it is quite stunning as is. I have a lot of fun creating these designs.

Daffodil Stars & Mandala

I have completed 2 digital stars using photos of daffodils. The first is made with the flowers, the second with the leaves. I made the second one into a radial background for the mandala.

Daffodils

I have started working on daffodil designs. The process starts with extracting the photos from the background. Here are the first 4 completed extracts. I am using all yellow, yellow and white, and yellow and orange flowers. Daffodils are an early sign of spring here in Maine, and it seems that anyone with a yard, has some growing. I've always thought they are beautiful, interesting flowers.

Christmas Card Designs

I have used photos of a large spruce tree out in front of my brother's house to design this year's Christmas card. The first time I saw this tree, I thought Christmas tree. I've had a variety of pine cones to create the mandala. I used a background made from photos of pine coned to complete the accompanying mandala array. This design fits my Maine and northeast theme. I have also added an expanded array which could be expanded even further.

2014 Mainely Mandalas Calendar

I have just enough appropriate designs to create a Maine themed, 12 month calendar; so I have posted this on Zazzle. Next year, I will have more creations to work with, but this is your chance to get the first in what will be a yearly series. This is also appropriate for any of the New England or Northeast states.

Dandelion Mandala Array

I have completed the dandelion mandala array and post it for your review. I have discovered that bees really benefit from having dandelions around. We need to be giving the bees all the support we can, so allowing the dandelions a place is a way to do that.

Dandelion Mandala and Star

This is the completed dandelion mandala and a flower star. I need to create a background for the mandala next. The flower star has wonderful detail.

Still More Dandelions

I have the last two dandelion photo extracts ready. I have also started on the mandala, and have completed a border/frame.

More Dandlions

Here are three more dandelion extracts. Two more, and I will be able to create the mandala. As you can see, they are not all along. For one thing they are at different stages of development. Some are just starting to open, others are fully blossomed. I learn a lot from working with these photos.

Good Day Bikes

Tucson is one of the most bicycle friendly cities in the country. With all our hills in Maine, bicycling is more of a challenge, but it is a great way to enjoy the beautiful country side. I created a variety of designs for the BICAS bicycle coop in Tucson to help support their efforts, but these creations could apply to any bicycle club, coop or shop. I sell them on Zazzle under the title of Good Day Bikes. Bike your way to a good day. I also have animated this design have it posted as one of my 25 You Tube videos. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln3ntWjZaFY&feature=share&list=UUUGOyJZtSWkpR29Vrm1ofYA

Celtic Knot Mandalas

I originally created these designs while in Tucson; but Maine has a large Irish population, so they belong here. I am half Irish myself, so I have long been fond of celtic knots. These designs are after Leonardo DaVinci and Albrecht Durer, but I plan to create more of my own in the future. I have a whole collection of Irish designs on my Zazzle site to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Dandelion Extract 7

This is the seventh in our collection of dandelion photo extracts, that is extracted from the background. Another reason I decided to use dandelions as a subject is that there are probably not many artists using them as a subject. Especially creating for an online audience, it is a challenge to design unique pieces.

Butterflies

I have created a number of mandalas using butterflies. Again, I created these while in Arizona, but they work just as well in Maine. You can see them on various products on my Zazzle site. I also have some borders made with butterflies and give an example here.

Tree Mandalas

I plan to create tree mandalas as time goes on. The extraction process for bare branched trees is very time consuming, so I chose this small tree for my original experiment. I am not completely satisfied with the results, but offer it here as it suggests some of the possibilities.
